Web Page Design and Development

Businesses, non-profit organizations, and communities are increasingly seeking to share information about their products and services to the largest audience possible. Disseminating information via a Web site happens to be the most efficient and cost effective means of communicating with persons interested n seeking this information-- regardless of where they might be.

How Does Community Development Relate to Web Design?

We have been in the profession of community development, or communications, for over three decades. We equate community development to communications.

No government agency, business, private non-profit or community can excel without good communications. Successful businesses, organizations and communities must have open lines of communications within their internal structure and with their clients or customers. Not achieving these open lines of communications typically leads to difficulties, if not failure.

All relations between individuals and groups hinge on communications. A successful web design consultant must be able to communicate effectively, and the first step to being a good communicator is to be a good listener.

To communicate effectively via a web site, it is essential that the web designer understands the principles, the vision and mission of its clients — those wishing to better inform their clients or constituents about their products or services. We excel at this.

Our team understands that public sector, the non-profit sector, and the private sector. We have worked in all three sectors. We can assist clients in all three sectors to achieve improved communications, or marketing, via their web sites.

Small Businesses

If you are starting or running a small business, we have managed our business for over nine years, and can understand businesses' needs. For businesses to be successful, they must market their services or products effectively.

Non-Profits

If you are managing a private non-profit agency, our President started and managed a non-profit agency for three years. We know the non-profit sector. We know about supporting funding sources, boards of directors, staff, contractors and vendors. We understand the non-profits' success can almost be measured by their ability to clearly articulate their purpose effectively to their client population and potential donors.

Public Sector

We have experience as a public employees, and know how public entities operate and communicate with decision-makers, constituents and among themselves. We have designed and maintained web pages for municipalities.

Whether you wish to develop a web site from scratch or redesign your web site, our design team can assist you.

One of our web page designs has been that of the Downtown Austin Great Streets Project in Austin, Texas. Please click on this hyperlink Great Streets Project to view the result of our efforts. Another is that of the City of San Marcos Transportation Master Plan (no longer posted on the Web). Another is the City of Austin's Pluger Bridge Extension Project web site. On a pro bono basis, we maintained the web site of the Austin Fly Fishers for several years, but do not at present. The web site you are viewing is another example of our work.

Our approach to web design is one of open dialogue to ensure that the clients' goal for their web site is achieved. We listen attentively. We mirror what we heard back to the client — verbally and graphically. By thoroughly understanding our clients' needs, our design team produces web sites to satisfy those needs. We listen, mirror, produce and satisfy.

Web Design Planning Process

The major steps in our Web Design Planning Process include the following:

Planning

  • Discuss the site's goals/objectives.
  • Compare and contrast the client's needs and ideas for the site.
  • Define the site's ongoing maintenance needs
  • Set the timeline.

Design Options

  • Discuss with the client the design options and design specifications.
  • If the client wishes the ability of allowing the web site visitor to enter data for subsequent collection, tabulation and analysis, this service can be provided as well. (For example, registration for a conference.)
  • Request the client to bring several examples of web sites they like.
  • Draft the site map starting with the home page and showing all links.

Design Set

  • Client signs-off on all web site requirements (number of pages, how the site will work, etc.).
  • Understand all responsibilities.
  • Any additions will be at additional fees.

Production

  • The design team drafts text and develops graphics (if not provided by the client).
  • Develop the site.
  • Launch the site onto our temporary web domain to enable the client to view the draft site as it will appear in the client's web domain on the Internet.

Web Site Launch

  • Launch the site on the Internet on a domain provided by the client (Assistance is provided in this step.).
  • Register the site with the major Internet search engines.
  • Maintain the site per pre-agreed schedule.

Web Design Solutions at Fees You Can Afford

Our design team consists of independent web design professionals with a wide variety of writing and design experience and expertise. Each of the team members brings to the design team the expertise needed to satisfy the clients' needs. As such, the team is different for each assignment. The client is not expected to help support staff not needed for the particular assignment. Because of this organizational structure, we operate on a lower overhead than most similar businesses. We can save you money.
